PHYSIOTHERAPY


Physiotherapy itself is the science which has to do with the rehabilitation of functional limitation, disability and handicap comprising of the Pathology involving the nerve and muscular conduction of the body state of health resolving it back to normal or near-normal in terms of carrying out task of Activity of Daily Living (ADL).

SERVICES IN OUR PHYSIOTHERAPY DEPARTMENT

a.     Relief of pain
b.     Reduce Swelling/edema
c.     Improve the integrity of the skin and joints
d.     Release joint stiffness
e.     Break spasticity (which is the resistance to passive movement)
f.      Frees adhesive scar tissue like contractures in burn injury
g.     Increase Range of Motion (ROM)
h.     Enhance the Physiological and Physical properties of the muscles
i.      Addresses degenerative diseases such as bone calcifications, osteo-arthritis and ligaments wear and tear.
j.      Promote blood circulation
k.     Encourage nerve sensitivity
l.      Bring down muscle wastage and motivate muscular hypertrophy
m.   Moderates blood pressure

SOME OF THE MODALITIES/EQUIPMENT WE USE

1.     Trans Electric Nerve Stimulation (TENS) to lessen pain
2.    Soft Tissue Mobilization (STM) to calm down swellings and using brush to stimulate or trigger nerve sensitivity
3.    Active/Passive Movement (APM) to stop joint stiffness, spasticity and increase ROM
4.    Operate ultrasound machine with KY gel to free tight tendons, adhesive scar tissues as in contractures of burn injury
5.    In case of back pain, cervical and lumbar spondylosis, osteo-arthritis or abdominal pains, we treat with Short Wave Diathermy (SWD)
6.    Change of positions for postural drainage of body fluid to the nearest lymph nodes.
7.     Exercise proscriptions including breathing and the use of treadmill steps to increase blood circulation and dampens muscle wastage.
8.     Use of hand balls, exercisers for firm grip, shoulder wheel, sand bag weight, dumb bell load and standing box of parallel bar to strengthen muscle weakness in paraparesis/hemiplegia of stroke patients and Delayed Developmental Milestone (DDM) in Cerebral Palsy (CP) children (treated vice versa)
9.     The mirror is usually used for bio-feedback
10.   Bicycle Ergometer to stretch and strengthen weak lower limb
11.    Traction machine system to relief pain at the back, neck thighs, knees, arms, ankles, and so on.
12.   We also monitor blood pressure using sphygmomanometer
